Wellsville High School, Class of 1982

Cathy Salter epitomized excellence at Wellsville High School, where she stood out as one of seven valedictorians in the class of 1982. Known for her impressive involvement in extracurricular activities, Cathy lettered in band, basketball, track, and volleyball, leaving an indelible mark both on the field and in the classroom. Raised in Wellsville alongside her five siblings, Cathy's athletic prowess remains unmatched, holding the WHS Athletic School record for the 440-yard dash. Her classmates fondly remember her as a standout student who excelled academically while also fostering strong connections with everyone she encountered.

Jamie Hardman, founder of the Cathy Salter Memorial Scholarship, fondly recalls Cathy's ability to effortlessly connect with her peers, describing her as a gifted athlete and musician who was a friend to all. Echoing this sentiment, Eleanor, Cathy's mother, highlights her daughter's innate kindness and knack for putting others at ease. Through this scholarship, Cathy's enduring legacy of academic excellence, athletic achievement, and unwavering compassion continues to inspire future generations of Wellsville High School graduates.

University of Cincinnati, Class of 1986

After her distinguished tenure at Wellsville High School, Cathy Salter continued her academic journey at the University of Cincinnati, where she pursued her passion for history. From 1982 to 1986, she dedicated herself to her studies at McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Post-graduation, Cathy embarked on a career path that showcased her versatile skill set, initially working as a paralegal before transitioning to a role as a claims administrator with AON Risk Services in 1991.

In 1996, she assumed the role of Assistant Vice President/Claims Manager at AON Risk Services, marking a significant milestone in her professional ascent. With her sights set on new horizons, Cathy relocated to NYC in 2000, drawn by the promise of opportunity and growth. Her decision to accept a position at the World Trade Center underscored her ambition and dedication to her work.

Tragically, Cathy's promising trajectory was cut short on September 11th, when she found herself in the south tower at the time of the terrorist attacks. The devastating events of that day claimed her life, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Today, Cathy's memory lives on as her name is etched onto Panel S-60 at the South Pool of the official 9/11 Memorial in New York City, a poignant reminder of her enduring legacy and the countless lives lost on that fateful day.
